FAQs

How can you travel safely with a fresh tattoo?

A new tattoo and then traveling right away? It sounds adventurous—but it’s also a bit of a challenge for your skin. A freshly inked tattoo is sensitive and needs care and protection. With the right preparation and goodaftercare, you can still travel with peace of mind without putting your new artwork at risk.

✈️ Can you travel right after getting a tattoo?

To be honest: it’s better not to. After the piercing, your skin is still open and sensitive. It needs a few days to heal.

If possible, wait at least 2–4 weeks before planning a long trip or a flight.

But if the trip can't be postponed:

  • Clean hands first:Always wash them thoroughly before touching your tattoo.
  • Lightweight clothing:Breathable, loose-fitting, and soft—this helps prevent chafing.
  • Tattoocare in your carry-on:Pack yourtattoo oil or balm. A very thin layer can help keep your skin supple and protect it from drying out.

👉Tip:If you’re planning to get a tattoo abroad, set aside a few days afterward to relax before flying home. Your skin will thank you for it.

🧴 Traveling with a fresh tattoo – what should you keep in mind?

There are plenty of little hazards lurking for freshly tattooed skin while you're on the go: dry airplane air, hotel linens, the sun, and dust.

To keep your tattoo looking fresh:

  • Hygiene is everything:Wash your hands before providing care or changing clothes.
  • Use it sparingly:A thin layer ofSKULLTRESS™ Tattoo Balm or Oilis all you need. Using too much can soften the skin.
  • No scratching or rubbing:If it itches, gently tap the area or apply a cold compress for a short time.
  • Air instead of plastic wrap:Let your tattoo breathe whenever possible. Cover it briefly only if there’s a high risk of it getting dirty.

SKULLTRESS™ Tattoo Careuses natural, vegan ingredients—developed in Switzerland and gentle on all skin types. Perfect for keeping your skin healthy while traveling.

🛫 Flying with a Tattoo – What You Need to Know

The air in an airplane is extremely dry, which can put additional strain on freshly tattooed skin.

What you can do:

  • Drink enough water.Staying hydrated helps nourish your skin from the inside out.
  • Avoid pressure points.Especially with tattoos on your thighs, back, or where the armrests rest—it’s best to sit loosely or pad the area lightly.
  • Skincare during the flight:If your skin feels tight, apply a tiny amountof tattoo oil. It absorbs quickly without feeling sticky.

If you notice that your skin feels dry after landing, gently cleanse it, pat it dry, and then apply a light moisturizer. That’s it.
